From Madison to the Middle East: Berbee Derby holds race simultaneously for local troops deployed overseas
Madison (WKOW) -- For fourteen years, the annual Berbee Derby has stood as Madison's time honored Turkey Trot.
This year, with the help of American Family Insurance, coordinators are saluting our troops in a way never dreamed possible before.
Military wives Ashley Bergeman and Melanie Kleinheinz came up with the idea to partner with the Berbee Derby. The goal: to make the event special for their husbands.
The Berbee Derby was the first Thanksgiving Day run in Madison, its marketing manager Suzy Shain said. Since 2004, proceeds from the race have gone to the Technology Education Foundation, which gives money to nonprofits with technology projects for youth and adults. Read full article.
